DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

The Austrian Minister of Economy and Finance, Martin Bartenstein, announced that the right to work will be granted to some categories of legal immigrants such as: the spouses of the legal immigrants which have been in Austria for at least five years,the teenagers who had immigrated to Austria before they finished school and the persons who had asked for asylum. 25,000 persons will benefit from this decision. The Austrian media estimates that, out of a total of 700,000 legal immigrants in Austria, 550,000 have reached the age when they are allowed to work . 305,000 already have a job.

COMMENTS ON THIS DOCUMENT:

The article provides one of the best examples of what the policy of a country should be when confronted which such a complex phenomenon as immigration: creating a well-defined legal environment for the immigrants to live and work, ensuring thus the prosperity of both of the `host country` and of the immigrants. The answer to immigration is not shutting it off, ignoring it etc (because this will only encourage illegal work and immigration), but providing a legal framework for it with strict and clear regulations.
