COMMENTS ON THIS DOCUMENT:

The number of asylum seekers fell in France during the first ten months of 2006, 22,043 applications were registered to 36,844 during the same period in 2005, the year when France had been so far the first land of reception of asylum seekers among the industrialized countries went to the second place after the United States and ahead the United Kingdom.
Several organizations and associations are worried.
The report published in November 28 by the CNCDH (National Consultative Commission of Human Rights) underlines the risks to confuse asylum and immigration. Asylum seekers face increasing obstacles because of the measures to control migration flows: visa policy more and more restrictive, more and more inspections at departure and arrival, shortening the time of filing the application for asylum, obligation to prove address, requirement of the application being written in French, introduction in 2005 of a list of "safe countries" ...
Mr. Boukry, the representative of the United Nations’ High Commission, warns against a policy that is growing in Europe, seeking to "influence the flow rather than preserving the core principles of asylum." He recalls that "a refugee is not a regular migrant.
