Venturia Manoila (1896-1986), publicist, professor, having a BA in Natural Sciences in Cluj, then acquiring university studies in Budapest, Paris, London, Brussels, Berlin, Dresden, Vienna. She specialized in social assistance at “John Hopkins” University , Baltimore, USA( 1926-1927). She was Headmaster of the Superior School of Social Assistance “Princess Ileana” in Bucharest (1927-1947). She founded and led an organization called “the Association for the Progress of Social Assistance” (1936). She also collaborated for the publications “Romanian Sociology”, “ The truth” , “The Archive for Science and Social Reform”,“The American Institute Bulletin”. In 1948 she emigrated to USA and she worked as adviser at the Central Institute of Social Assistance in New York. Thus, she could help the Romanian refugees to integrate in the American society. In 1952 she became a founding member of “Iuliu Maniu” Foundation in order to support financially the young Romanians who were studying in the USA and also to make Romanian culture popular in the United States..

COMMENTS ON THIS DOCUMENT:

It deals with the biography of an important member of the Romanian diaspora in the USA and describes how she made it possible to highlight the Romanian culture there
