The current article aims to offer a complete description of the Romanian youth that already have been part of the migration act and to make the profile of the potential migrant among youth. A total of 837 youth, aged 15-30 participated at the study. The results showed that 129 of the persons interviewed have been involved in a migration act in the period 1999-2003. 10,9% of them stayed abroad of one month, 41,9% of them stayed abroad from 1 to 3 months and 21,7% of them didn’t specified the period of there stay in another country. Half of the youth that migrated during the specified period of time are students, are not interested in resolving the problems of their community, have Internet access, 12% have children, 93% haven’t their personal business, 91, 5% of them speak at lest one foreign language, 65% have a close relative temporary or definitively establish abroad and 58, 5% of them have a lot of self confidence. 43% of the youth involved in the study declared that are wiling to remain abroad if they encounter this opportunity. Regarding the profile of the youth that have declared there intention to emigrate, 48,3% of them have two jobs, 68% live with their parents, 425 have medium studies, 87% doesn’t have children, 76,7% intend to continue their studies or to graduate some specialized courses abroad, 93% think that work is a very important aspect in succeeding in life, 80,8% think that youth are more or less understood by society and 55% of them think that youth are discriminated when hiring. The group of youth that want to settle abroad share specific values like work (95%), education (91%), look (80%), relations (89%) and family members (75%).

COMMENTS ON THIS DOCUMENT:

The study regarding the Romanian youth abroad, gets to the conclusion that the majority of Romanian youth haven’t been involved in an international migration (in 2003). Concerning remains the fact that more that a half of the youth interviewed declared there desire to settle in another country. These kinds of youth have access to a personal network of friends and family members and have the possibility to integrate successfully.
