English
The arrival of MV Empire Windrush at Tilbury in June 1948 has become a symbol marking the beginning of immigration to Britain from Commonwealth countries and colonies.
Men and women from the Caribbean had volunteered for the armed forces and war work during the Second World War. Their contribution had a long-term legacy for Britain.
The ‘Through My Eyes’ online resource tells the stories of 3 Caribbean-born Britons, their reasons for migrating to Britain and their contributions to British society.
First hand reports of memories and experiences of ex-service men and women who chose to settle in Britain after WW2.
Also links to accounts by Vietnamese Boat Refugees, Holocaust survivors, Kenyan Asians, Bosnian and Kosovan Albanian refugees and survivors of the Rwandan genocide Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs affected by the partition of India.
