Umbrian emigrations started at the end of XIX century because of the economic, social and political backwardness. Farming was the only source of economy, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy the food requirement. The situation was aggravated by the fiscal withdrawal that really impoverished Umbria..The first improvement signals appeared in the early mid-twentieth century, but the changes weren’t enough to restore the situation, consequently emigration was the solution.
This abstract was written to acquaint us with Umbrian emigrations, drawing on from the main reasons that led people to leave the region. The reasons were several, but the most influential seemed to be the unsatisfactory economic system. The text is written from an objective point of view and gives us precise information about dates and triggering events of emigrations
