The Online Manual “Understanding European Migrations” is organised in 6 chapters:

The 1st Chapter provides a brief overview of the history of migration in Europe, through historical and chronological features, an analysis of the general economic context and an explanation of the main reasons of the phenomenon.

The 2nd Chapter and the linked national cards describe the experiences of the migrating people analysing their situation and their feelings just before leaving their country: what (and whom) they left behind and what they were looking for when they left.

The 3rd Chapter also deals with migrating people’s experience. This chapter, both in the main text and in the national cards, focus particularly on the new, “second” life of the migrants in the new country they migrated to.

The 4th Chapter analyses the migration phenomenon from the hosting countries point of view. This chapter analyses the migration phenomenon from a legal perspective providing references to laws, rules and measures that the hosting countries adopted to deal with migration issues.

The 5th Chapter also analyses the migration phenomenon from the hosting countries point of view. This chapter however offers a personal perspective describing the perception of the migration phenomenon of natives citizens who got in touch with migrant people, highlighting their feelings, prejudices, stereotypes and personal experiences.

The 6th Chapter is a short survey about best practices in the field of integration of migrants, making reference to the findings of the National and Transnational reports and to the Documents
