TYPE OF LEGISLATORY ACT:

International accordance

DATE OF THE PUBLICATION OF THE LAW:

3rd January 1950

IDENTIFICATION OF THE LAW:

Accordance between Italy and Belgium for the abolition of the visa on the passports.

DESCRIPTION OF LAW CONTENTS:

The accordance is divided in 12 main parts.
The Italians could go to Belgium for two months without a visa.
The Belgians could go to Italy for three months without a visa.
It was possible to extend the stay only for exceptional reasons, excluded those for work.
The 8th part : who was moving there for work reasons had to have a special authorization.
The 9th part: both countries had the right not to allow the entrance of the “undesirables”.

COMMENTS ON THIS DOCUMENT:

The document was concluded immediately after the war (1950) when the Italians emigrated to Belgium for work reasons.
The accordance was only for stays of short term: two months for the Italians and three months for the Belgians.
The reason of this could be the fact that in this way it was easier for the family of the emigrated workers to go/come and visit them.
The 8th part is very interesting since it states that Italy and Belgium had the right to avoid the entrance of the “undesirables” and in the 12th part it’s written that for reasons of public order and health security both countries could suspend the accordance.
