TYPE OF PRODUCT:

Article, Web Article

LANGUAGE/S OF PRODUCT:

Romanian

DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

The article analyses the good and the bad parts of the migration phenomenon in Romania from 1999 till nowadays offering valuable statistics regarding the number, age, sex, ethnic origins, social status, qualifications of the people who left Romania in this period. Out of the nearly 2 million migrant Romanian workers 65% are between 20-29 y.o., meaning that the fertile population decreases in this country. On the other hand these people send every year 4-5 billion euros, money which often constitutes the sole income source for many families in Romania.

COMMENTS ON THIS DOCUMENT:

The document reveals that without the migrant workers Romania would be in a deep economical crisis and it explains to some extent the last years improvement in the living standard for the average people, the boom in the constructions field, the rise of the consumerist society. Another positive aspect revealed by the study is the fact that when faced with strict rules and another level of civilisation these people see, learn and try to replicate (both in the country they work and then back in Romania when or if they return)the civic spirit of these developed countries they work and live in.
