DESCRIPTION OF CONTENTS:

‘Focus On People and Migration’ gives information on changes in the structure as well as the growth of the UK population based on data collected in the 2001 census.

There is a section on ‘International Migration’ which compares levels of inward and outward international migration over the decades between 1973 and 2002 and the consequent impact on population growth. Recent increases in net international migration to the UK mean that migration is becoming much more important in determining population change.

’Latest on Population and Migration’ has a section on ‘International Migration’ updated to 2004.

COMMENTS ON THIS DOCUMENT:

This report is a useful reference to the role that net international migration into the UK plays in the dynamics of the UK population as a whole. The report is archived and is downloadable in pdf form. (see link given below).

It is best used in conjunction with a more recent analysis ‘Latest on Population and Migration’ (see link given below).
