Benjamin Zephaniah explores the diversity of British society in this collection of poems about 13 children from a range of different cultural origins. The poems are set in the context of each child’s background and history. The subjects include a Kurdistani refugee, a Chinese pop star wannabe and a Grenadan boy who loves cricket amongst others.
Benjamin Obadiah Iqbal Zephaniah is a British Rastafarian writer and dub poet. He is a well-known figure in contemporary English literature and was included in The Times list of Britain's top 50 post-war writers in 2008. He was born in Birmingham in 1958. He turned down an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003.
The collection is illustrated with photographs by Prodeepta Das.
While the language is appropriate for KS1 and KS2, the poems raise concepts and issues relevant to older age groups.
