This book relates and analyzes the carreer of more than 120 hundred people of Algerian origin who were successful. In addition, it enables to understant how the construction of socio-professional trajectories of individuals who became managers or businessmen while their fathers are or were workers in this immigration society for a great majority of them. The central issue here is that of social mobility and socio-professional rise produced by history and family mobilization.
Emmanuelle Santelli focused her work on the career of some of these boys and girls (one hundred in all) who have today become managers (doctors, lawyers, teachers), contractors ( craftmen and traders) or middle executives. She favours the method of in-depth biograhical interviews to detect the intricacies of the social rise Algerian immigrants’children.
