'Closing The Door': a report about the Jewish immigration
Guardian Newspaper
London 2005
Report, Survey
English
A report by the Guardian about an exhibition hosted by the Jewish Museum to mark the centenary of the 1905 Aliens Act.
There are links to images from the exhibition including:
Advertisements and cartoons portraying attitudes to Jewish immigrants in the early 1900’s
Photos covering Commonwealth immigrants in the labour market
Vietnamese Boat People
Ugandan arrivals at Stansted Airport in 1972
Cartoons commenting on attitudes to immigration at the beginning of 21st century.
The report is a useful record of the exhibition which finished in August 2005.
The images selected for the exhibition catalogue some of the key features of 20th century immigration history.
They demonstrate that current issues around immigration are not new but have been debated throughout the last century.
