Kenyan Asians – Through My Eyes: an online exhibition
Imperial War Museum
2008, London, UK

English
Accounts by Kenyan Asians who came to Britain in the mid-1960’s when a policy of ‘Africanisation’ began to make life difficult for those who had opted for British citizenship after independence in 1963.
A brief tour through events which led up to the decision of some Kenyan Asians to move to Britain.
The online exhibition clearly establishes the links between the 19th century British involvement in Kenya and the subsequent migration of Kenyan Asians to Britain following Kenyan independence in 1963.
Reference is also made to the reaction in Britain by way of the Commonwealth Immigrants Bill of 1968.
There are links to accounts by Vietnamese Boat Refugees, Holocaust survivors, Basque evacuees, Bosnian and Kosovan Albanian refugees, survivors of the Rwandan genocide and Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs affected by the partition of India
