Poster Proclaiming a Public Demonstration: the scan of the Poster
British Brothers League
1902 London
English
A poster advertising a public demonstration to be chaired by Major Sir William Evans-Gordon on Tuesday 14th January 1902
The demonstration is organised by the British Brothers League and was aimed at gaining support for restricting further immigration by Jewish refugees from Eastern Europe.
The British Brothers League with Major Sir William Evans-Gordon set up the Royal Commission on Immigration.
Evidence was presented to the Commission by Major Sir William Evans-Gordon in his book The Alien Immigrant (1903) and the findings of the Commission led to the Aliens Act of 1905.
The link given below is to the Guardian Unlimited report of the Jewish Museum immigration exhibition. The British Brothers League Public Demonstration poster is therefore one of a series of images relevant to immigration.
